About this story
You wake in a rattling prison cart on the road to a ceremonial execution, with snow in your boots, a rope burn at your wrists, and four strangers who each have a different theory about why the world keeps mistaking you for its prophesied hero. In the sideways province of Nordfall, the civil war is real, the dragon is theatrical, and every quest giver has a suspiciously personal reason for needing your help. To survive, you will have to choose who to trust - the reckless rebel captain, the devastatingly competent imperial executioner, the court mage who annotates every prophecy, or the innkeeper who can tell when you are lying - while deciding whether a life chosen by you is worth more than the legend everyone else wants to put on your head.
